If the news of a federal judge in NY dismissing organic farmers’ lawsuit against Monsanto left you angry and frustrated, here is your chance to fight back against corporate abuses. This case has the potential to become the next McLibel scandal. Let’s make Chick-Fil-A regret their decision to bully this artist and the kale farmers he is trying to support!

I can sit here and say that because it’s true. Meat production continues to accelerate. Veganism may have made the demand for meat slightly less than it would have been otherwise, but with overall demand for meat growing so rapidly, it’s had no effect on production.
Ask someone who knows about economics. Even if there was a significant reduction in the demand for meat,...

Lucy Lawless is illegally seated atop a 174-foot derrick rising from a drilling ship off New Zealand’s western shore, and she really, really doesn’t want to talk about Xena: Warrior Princess. The ship is called the Noble Discoverer, but Lawless has rechristened it the Ignoble Destroyer. It used to be called the Frontier Discoverer, and before that the Discoverer 511, and...

Consequentialism vs. deontology in veganism and animal liberation. It’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently. With discussions of pragmatism and virtue too. Yes?
Further Up/Further In: Polycarp of Smyrna (70-155) →

Polycarp was arrested by Roman officials after having served as Bishop of Smyrna for many decades. When the Roman proconsul ordered him to declare that “Caesar is Lord” and to curse Christ, the elderly Polycarp refused, saying, “Eighty-six years I have served him and he never did me any wrong. How can I blaspheme my King who saved me?” Polycarp was sentenced to death by fire, but...

I don’t think that you can avoid participating in injustice. I believe that every commodity in existence is the product of injustice. The only reason I would boycott these products was if I genuinely thought that doing so would make a difference, stop the injustice from happening. If veganism was a viable strategy for alleviating the suffering of animals, I’d support it....
